An outdoor amphitheater built in the 1920's located on 120 acres north of Hollywood just west of the Hollywood Freeway. Take the Highland Avenue off ramp and follow the signs.
The Bowl, as the locals refer to it, is best known for the its summer music series. The Bowl is the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Music Director. Also home of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, John Mauceri, Principal Conductor. This is the place where you can pack that picnic dinner ... complete with candles and a bottle of your favorite bubbly ... and head for the Hollywood Hills. Arrive early, be prepared to walk a distance, and pick a good spot. Very pleasant in the summer but dress in layers for it can get cool in the evening. Have some patience with the traffic. Some evening events host fireworks.
There are a few additional events during the summer including the Playboy Jazz Festival and some special concerts.
