Newly Renovated: The 18 month renovation covers the entire interior and exterior, a new dance floor, new lighting, upgraded restrooms, expanded concessions, a new facade replicating the original architecture along with upgrades to the stage infrastructure to accomodate larger productions. Jay-Z re-opens the Palladium on 15 October 2008 backed by a 12-piece band.
Directions: One block east of Vine on the north side of Sunset. Just two blocks west of Gower.
Information: Opened as a ballroom 23 September 1940 with a concert by the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra featuring the soon-to-be famous Frank Sinatra. The 11,000 square foot oval dance floor was the place to be. Lawrence Welk played here every Saturday night from 1961 to 1976.
Seating may vary depending upon the event. There is seating upstairs in the VIP section and balcony. The main floor may be open or have seating depending upon how it is set up for the event.
Live Nation is the venue operator after assuming the lease on the Hollywood Palladium in April 2007. The Hollywood Palladium is owned by Newport Capital Advisors and is leased to Live Nation. Newport Capitoal Advisors purchased the Palladium site for a reported $68 million in 2007. They have plans for further commercial developments on the parcel.
