Directions: The Pantages Theatre is on the north side of the Hollywood Blvd. just east of Vine. From the 101 freeway take the Hollywood Blvd. exit. West on Hollywood Blvd. approximately four blocks.
Information: Opened in June 1930. Built to screen movies with live shows as was popular then, the Pantages Theatre has a large stage. The Academy Awards were held here from 1949 to 1959.
The Pantages Theater is owned by Broadway producer James M. Nederlander who also owns the Palace and Lunt-Fontanne theaters in New York.
Lion King - Disney's musical "Lion King" is scheduled to open 19 October 2000 and run, at least initially, through 30 March 2001. The actual run will depend upon attendance but it could be extended if the interest is there.
Lion King features extravagant life sized puppets such as giraffes (men on stilts), an elephant and lions. Look for a parade through the audience in the opening act.
The Lion King was the biggest hit on broadway (New York) since it made its' debut in 1997. This will be the first full production in the United States outside of New York.
The Pantages is undergoing a $5 million to $10 million renovation to get ready for the new show.
Early tickets available through American Express. Expect ticket prices to range from $10 in the upper balcony to $125 for VIP seats.
