The Gibson Amphitheatre will close in September 2013. The space is needed for the planned Universal Studios Hollywood's Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The Gibson has been a concert venue since 1972. Shows scheduled for after September will be will be moved to other venues. Some shows may have to be rescheduled or canceled.

The Gibson Amphitheatre was named after the guitar manufacturer who purchased the naming rights  for the venue in 2005. The closure has been expected but was announced Wednesday 24 April 2013.



"The Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal Citywalk" -a  new name as of 4 April 2005 reflects the joint partnership with Universal Studios and House of Blues Concerts. The previous name was Universal Amphitheatre.

Gibson Amphitheatre, one of the finer concert halls in Southern California which hosts name entertainment and award events.

Directions
From the Hollywood Freeway 101 South exit Lankershim Boulevard and make a left turn on to Cahuenga Boulevard. Turn left on to Universal Center Drive. Continue on Universal Center Drive up the hill to the parking structures.

From the Hollywood 101 Freeway North exit Universal Center Drive. Turn right at the first signal which is Universal Center Drive. Continue on Universal Center Drive up the hill to the parking structures.

Information
Gibson Amphitheatre was an open air theatre over a decade ago. It is now covered with seats spread over a main orchestra level and mezzanine. The acoustics are excellent. This theatre was built especially for amplified sound. This is an excellent concert hall used for concerts and award performances.

Parking costs extra and it comes with a short hike through CityWalk. Then when you think that you have arrived you continue another short walk past the turnstiles along another bridge-like walkway over a pond. Better leave five or ten minutes just for the walk from parking to the theatre.

The 6,251 seats face the 70 foot stage in a semicircle. Try for the orchestra seats in sections 1, 2, and 3 if you can get them otherwise go for sections 4 and 5. In the mezzanine sections 10, 11, 12, 13 are good but stay away from the extreme sides sin the mezzanine, sections 29 and 30. See seating chart (125K bytes GIF) or below.
