aflutterin' when he was fourteen acting with a small theater company. Actually,
Antonio's dream was to play professional soccer, but a broken foot ended
the dream and the stage became his new goal. At nineteen Banderas moved
to Madrid and became a member of the National Theater of Spain in the ensemble.
Phantom - Banderas to devote his time to the movie adaptation of "The Phantom of the Opera" says his publicisit or so reports The Hollywood Reporter on 17 July 1998. Producer - Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith will co-produce film adaptations of six short stories by the Nobel Prize-winning Columbian author Garcia Marquez. It will be produced under their Green Moon Productions and directed by Antonio Pozueco. The six stories will need to be linked together somehow. See Variety 9 April 1998. History - "The Mambo Kings" was Antonio Banderas' debut film in the United States. Films that followed included "Interview With The Vampire" and "Philadelphia". Banderas became a major heartthrob with his good looks and accent. Antonio made more movies, none great box office wonders. However, in 1995 Banderas played opposite Madonna in "Evita" and the crowds returned. It's interesting to note that Madonna had propositioned Antonio years before, but he turned her down. Not so when he and Melanie Griffith made the film "Too Much". The happily married Banderas who chose his wife over Madonna this time followed Griffith. They wed in 1996 and have a daughter, Stella del Carmen. Antonio Banderas was chosen by People Magazine as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world in 1996. Awards
