. | Star and Oscar winner, Emma Thompson started her acting career at a
very early age. She was was born in Paddington, England to a theatrical
family. Her mother is actress Phillida Law who has appeared with Emma in
many films including 1997's award-winning "The Winter Guest". Her
father was a director of stage productions and her younger sister is actress
Sophie.
Emma studied English Literature at Cambridge where she wrote, directed and produced an all-female review, "Woman's Hour". After graduation Emma was fortunate to have a comedy series on British TV. Emma's film debut was in "Henry V" produced by her, then husband, Kenneth Branagh. She appeared in three more of his films, "Dead Again", "Peter's Friends" and "Much Ado About Nothing". Emma Thompson has been recognized by the Academy for her acting abilities in such films as "Howard's End", "The Remains of the Day" and "In The Name of the Father". Emma's writing ability did not go unrewarded in "Sense and Sensibility". Emma enjoys working in the United States and has some films in her future. Awards
