. | British actor Jeremy Irons is a product of the Bristol Old Vic repertory
company. He gained great stage experience appearing in Shakespearian roles
as well as popular dramas. After moving to London he was chosen to play
John the Baptist in the hit musical Godspell and played opposite David
Bowie. Later there were many British TV appearances and he had a starring
role in the popular, critically acclaimed BBC production, "Brideshead
Revisited".
He made his Broadway debut in "The Real Thing", a Tom Stoppard play starring Glenn Close. His teaming with Glenn Close again in "Reversal of Fortune" in which he played Claus von Bulow garnered him the Oscar for Best Actor (1990). But children will recognize his voice as that of the mean, villainous Scar in "The Lion King". Bio

May 1998 - Showtime to give "Lolita" its American premiere jointly
with its sister Sundance Channel service sometime in August. It will probably
open theatrically following its plays on Showtime and Sundance. Based on
the 1954 classic novel by Vladimir Nabokov. Humbert Humbert is the 45-year-old
college professor who becomes sexually obsessed with a 12-year-old girl
(Lolita).
