Born on June 22, 1936, multi-talented Kris Kristofferson has garnered
fame as an actor, singer, and songwriter.
Kris is in "A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries" opening
18 September 1998 from Buena Vista.
Background: A Texas native, Kristofferson
was a Golden Gloves boxer. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa in college
and a recipient of the Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University. He
left Oxford in 1960 and joined the U.S. Army where he completed ranger
school, parachute-jump school, and pilot training. He eventually
became a helicopter pilot. Through all these years, he was tinkering
with his true love, country music, writing song after song.
Success: Years of peddling his songs
finally paid off when Johnny Cash and Roger Miller recorded two of them.
Miller with "Me and Bobby McGee", and Cash made a No. 1 hit out of "Sunday
Mornin' Comin' Down. Janis Joplin later made "Me and Bobby McGee"
into a rock classic. His music, both as a performer and songwriter
has earned many coveted awards.
Film and TV: Kristofferson was discovered
by Hollywood. By this time he was recording his own music, and had
become a well-known singer. He added film appearances and TV projects
to his busy schedule. He was awarded a Golden Globe for his portrayal
of the alcoholic, has been singer in "A Star is Born", a re-make of the
re-make also starring Barbara Streisand.
Family: Kristofferson is married
to his third wife Lisa. He is the father of eight children from present
and previous marriages, Tracy, Kris, Casey, Jesse, Jody, Johnny, Kelley,
