Matthew was seen in a few commercials and music videos, but it was a chance meeting of a casting director that landed this handsome Texan his first film role. Matthew had his debut in "Dazed and Confused". 

Like a rocket Matthew shot through the ranks and got the lead in "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation". He also received a small role in "Boys on the Side". 

Matthew already had a role in John Grisham's "A Time To Kill", but suggested himself for the lead when he heard of casting problems. He tested and won the coveted part. 

"A Time To Kill" made Matthew a household name. Suddenly he was seen on the covers of many popular magazines. His popularity and talent led him to roles in "Contact" and "Amistad". 

McConaughey is single and lives with his dog, Miss Hud.
